Windows 11 24H2 Pro reaches end of support on October 13, 2026: how to move the PCs of your Mexico operation to 25H2 without stopping work

October 13, 2026 was probably already on your calendar because of Office 2021 and the first ESU year of Windows 10. On that same day, as BleepingComputer reported, Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro get their last security patch. Enterprise and Education continue into 2027.

Here is why this bites foreign companies harder: the PCs at your Mexico site were usually bought locally in 2024 or 2025, came with Windows 11 Pro and 24H2, and were set up by the vendor or the office manager. Some never joined your Intune tenant. Nobody at headquarters has the list. Here is how to build it and how to move to 25H2 without stopping the line.

What exactly ends on October 13

Windows 11 ships in yearly versions: 24H2 is the late-2024 release and 25H2 the late-2025 one. Each Home or Pro version gets 24 months of patches, and 24H2 runs out on October 13.

Nothing visible happens that day. The PC boots, Office opens, the accountant keeps invoicing. What stops arriving are the security fixes. New Windows flaws come out every month, and those machines keep the holes open. For ransomware, an unpatched PC on a flat office network is the easiest door in.

Do not mix this up with the Windows 10 ESU deadline. Those are old machines. These are new ones nobody expected to expire.

How to find out which version your Mexico PCs run

• One by one. Ask someone on site to press the Windows key and R, type winver and hit Enter. A small window shows the version. Works for a ten-PC office; a screenshot on WhatsApp is enough.
• Intune. Intune is Microsoft’s cloud console for managing devices. If the Mexico PCs are enrolled, the Windows version report answers in a minute. If the vendor set them up with a local account, they will not be there. That is the usual finding.
• Your local provider’s inventory. If you have an IT support plan in Mexico, the monitoring agent already knows every version. Ask for the list today.

Rolling out 25H2 without stopping the plant

Good news: 25H2 shares its code base with 24H2. In our experience the jump is light, installs like a normal update and needs one reboot. No reimaging, no migration.

What we do insist on is rings. A ring is a group of PCs that gets the update in one stage:

1. Pilot: three to five varied machines, picked with someone on the ground. The accountant with the CFDI software (Mexico’s mandatory electronic invoicing, which depends on a local certificate and often on old programs), the PC that runs the plant scale or the CNC, one sales laptop.
2. One week of waiting. Let them use everything odd: fingerprint reader, reception printer, the old ERP, the VPN to headquarters.
3. The rest in batches, outside Mexico working hours, not yours. A department per night or per weekend.
4. Last, the machines that cannot fail: point of sale, production, the general manager.

Tools: WSUS (a server inside the company that decides which updates come down and when), Intune update rings by group, or plain Windows Update with pause on and a technician releasing batches by hand. Same result, more legwork.

What to check before the first batch

A verified backup of every pilot machine. Not ‘I think it backs up’: someone restored a file this week.

The list of delicate software: invoicing, payroll, the scale program, the CNC software, fingerprint reader drivers. That is what complains after an update.

And someone who can physically go. If a PC does not boot after the reboot at 7 pm in Querétaro, remote access is useless and headquarters in Madrid or Chicago cannot help. You need smart hands in Mexico you can call.
